Our Restorative Services

In cases where a tooth cannot be saved due to infection, lack of tooth structure, trauma or orthodontic needs, a safe and gentle extraction is carried out to maintain the overall health of your child's mouth.

Pulpotomies (a.k.a. partial root canals) are performed on baby teeth that have deep decay that has reached the nerve of the tooth. This is a crucial procedure for preserving the affected tooth and preventing further decay and infection.

For back teeth that require more strength and durability, our stainless steel crowns are an ideal choice, ensuring long-lasting restoration.

Avatar

They repair and protect teeth that have been damaged by decay, injury, or when a filling is not sufficient to restore the tooth's integrity. Crowns are tailored to fit the unique size and shape of your child’s tooth and typically crafted from sturdy materials like stainless steel or tooth-colored composites.

Even with the best hygiene routines, cavities can still happen. Our composite dental fillings are designed to treat cavities effectively, restoring the tooth's structure and preventing further decay in a way that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing

Nitrous oxide, also known as "laughing gas," is a gentle and fast-acting sedation option. It helps children relax during their dental treatment while remaining fully conscious. This method is safe and has a quick recovery time, making it an excellent choice for less invasive procedures and mild dental anxiety.

General anesthesia is used for more complex medical procedures or for children who have special needs. It is administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist and involves temporarily putting the child to sleep, ensuring a painless and stress-free experience.

Our Preventative Services

Space maintainers are vital for ensuring proper alignment and spacing of permanent teeth, particularly if baby teeth are lost prematurely

Silver diamine fluoride is an antimicrobial treatment that helps stop cavity development after a cavity has formed and reduces associated sensitivity. This quick and painless, non-invasive option is beneficial for young patients and allows treatment to be delayed until a child is older and more cooperative.

Avatar

Fluoride treatments are offered as an effective component of preventative care. By strengthening the tooth enamel and reducing the bacteria that cause cavities, fluoride can help protect teeth from decay. Fluoride treatments are always optional and are recommended on a personalized basis.

Avatar

Dental sealants provide an effective barrier against cavities. By applying a protective coating to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, we can significantly reduce the risk of tooth decay.

Professional teeth cleanings are essential for maintaining good oral hygiene. These routine cleanings help to remove plaque and tartar buildup, preventing tooth decay and gum disease.

Our digital x-ray technology offers a safe, efficient way for Dr. Dana to provide the most comprehensive examination and recommendations for your child. Digital x-rays emit significantly less radiation than traditional x-rays and will be recommended on a personalized basis to reduce unnecessary exposure.

Avatar

Regular exams and diagnostic tests are the backbone of preventative dentistry. These checks allow us to closely monitor your child’s dental growth and development, identifying any potential issues early on and formulating effective treatment plans.

Pediatric Sedation

Avatar

It’s common for children to feel nervous about going to the dentist. Pediatric sedation helps alleviate dental anxiety, ensuring children feel comfortable and at ease during their visits. This positive experience fosters trust and minimizes future anxiety.

Avatar

When used alongside local anesthetic, pain and discomfort are effectively managed through pediatric sedation, making dental treatments less stressful for children. It ensures a pain-free experience and encourages regular dental care.

Many kids can have a hard time sitting still for the duration of their dental treatment. Sedation promotes cooperation, especially during more extensive procedures. It allows dentists to provide necessary treatments efficiently while the child remains relaxed.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should my child first see a dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your child's first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth erupting. Early visits help establish healthy habits, monitor growth and development, and allow us to answer any questions you may have about your child's oral health.

What should I expect at my child's first visit?

Our goal is to make your child's first visit a fun and positive experience! During the appointment, we'll gently examine your child's teeth and gums, discuss oral hygiene and nutrition, review any concerns you may have, and determine if a cleaning or fluoride treatment is appropriate. We also take time to help your child feel comfortable and build confidence at the dentist.

Do you accept my insurance?

Yes! Harmony Branch Pediatric Dentistry proudly accepts most major dental insurance plans along with NC Medicaid. Our team is happy to verify your benefits before your appointment and answer any questions you may have regarding your coverage.

Do you offer sedation or general anesthesia?

Yes. We understand that every child has unique needs. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for many procedures, as well as in-office general anesthesia with a dedicated anesthesia team for children who qualify. We also provide hospital dentistry when it is the safest and most appropriate treatment option. Our doctors will discuss all available options and help determine the best approach for your child.

What if my child is nervous about visiting the dentist?

That's completely normal! Many children feel anxious about visiting the dentist, especially for the first time. Our team specializes in caring for children and works hard to create a calm, friendly, and welcoming environment. We use gentle techniques, positive encouragement, and age-appropriate communication to help your child feel safe, comfortable, and confident during every visit.

Still Have Questions?

Our friendly team is always happy to help! If you have additional questions about your child's dental care, insurance, or scheduling an appointment, please don't hesitate to contact us.
